Jan – Easter 2020
Raw Performance 1 & 2,  Developing  &   Emerging  Squads

Overall themes

Setting standards to players:

Time keeping (explain importance of being on time)
Shadow upon arrival (initial warm up – specific practice)
After shadow, if still waiting practice serves or skill work
Sweeping rota (could do even if second session of evening – discipline)
Players to take turns to lead warm ups (5 minutes) (maybe extend) share ideas
Players to take turns to lead stretching – introducing new stretches each week
Goal setting for all groups
Controlling the controllables and being accountable for own losses / mistakes
Shuttles in lines / clean hall

Consistency (To be reviewed at half term)

Can be player lead to a certain extent
Serving - MUST be able to singles, doubles, mixed serve into different areas with good quality
ROS - need at least 2/3 really reliable returns for each event that players are confident with at key times
Serving and returning to be done in small chunks but more often during sessions (outside sessions too)

For all the below lots of shadow needed so in the correct postions and shapes to give best possible
chance for good technique

Forecourt - straight net and cross net in all events
Lift / flick off
Cut outs - have done previously but need to do more and less mistakes

Midcourt - more work on drives / defence. Longer rallies, more quantity
Turning the shuttle in defence / drives / pushes (margins)

Overhead - biggest area… look at different movement types with variety of shots
Variations of clears, smashes and drops
Similarly to last term - players need to continue to work on overhead technique if needed
Girls singles especially to focus on returns of high singles serves
Slices & reverses to become 'standard' shots rather than 'special' shots especially for dev/eme & raw p1

Link in tactics to all the above

Notes
Players must be honest and identify areas of current weaknesses even in simple areas / shots
Players to review after 6 weeks and highlight areas that still need work
Coaches to re-enforce importance of 'going back to basics' and mindset of working on basics
Link in closely with goal setting and set own standards
For all groups players must increase consistency on simple shots, and confidence in repeating shots
during rallies
Be able to increase rally length and able to competently move opponent to all areas of the court

In order to play consistent shots both technique and movement should be strong enough to hold up
at speed and under pressure. Set exercises for this
Reminder to players on importance of 'feeding' as whatever shots are being 'fed' are actually
practice if done properly

Raw ID and Raw p2 more multi shuttle work and focus on movement patterns.
Still check these but more single shuttle work with dev/eme

Lots of little competitions to make interesting fun and competitive, with bit of pressure

NOTES:
Commitment to BJBA and the county should be pushed from all angles
From last season - attendance! Coaches must push the importance of consistency in attendance
All shots are practice rather than feeding. Coaches to join in where appropirate
Many single shuttle rallies but mixed with multifeed too
Coaches to set aside time for individual goals & push the importance of setting goals and reviewing them
Link in goals to this topic
Assistant coaches and feeders to be more procative during sessions
Aim to find videos of example (and use projector)?
